ADDY SubmissionFAQs

  • Q: Is the ADDYS® some kind of dance? A: Not yet, but with any luck it will be. The ADDY® Awards is one of the most prestigious competitions for the advertising industry, pitting top notch ad agencies, in-house marketing groups, freelancers and students against one another and awarding the top creative ideas for the year. The competition recognizes all forms of advertising, from media of all types, creative of all sizes and entrants of all levels.

  • Q: Why should I enter? A: You work hard on your projects. Don’t keep the finished products to yourselves and your clients. Share it with the world—it’s easy to do. One of our key points is that great creative can come from anywhere. Just last year, 4 of the 10 local chapters represented at the national award level came from District 7. Win Local, Win District, Win National, Win BIG! It’s simple a

  • Q: Where do I start? A: Have you watched our Introductory How To Video? If not, take this moment to do so!

  • Q: How do I package my submissions? A: For most entries, we recommend people packing up ADDY® submissions in large, clear envelopes. The club has a limited supply of bags you may use. To obtain some, please contact us at addyawards@aafmontgomery.org and be sure to mention how many you need. Or order them here.

For 3D submissions, larger entries or campaigns, you may want to consider using a box for easy transportation. You can still submit entries with manila envelopes as well. In any case, you must remember to include two entry forms in your package and be sure to affix one of the entry number labels to your entry.

TV and video submissions must be entered on a DVD.

Web and interactive submissions must be entered by links to one of working sites. Additionally, you must submit two screenshots of website submissions, one of the homepage and an interior page. We recommend submitting a copy of the website by CD to be used in the event that internet access is not possible during judging.

Finally, please include a CD with print resolution thumbnails of all your entries for use in the winner’s book and presentation.

For complete rules and advice on entry submissions, please read the ADDY guideline PDF.

  • Q: Where do I drop off my ADDY® submissions? A: Drop your submissions off at Auburn University at Montgomery on January 11, 2012 between 1–7PM. The drop off will be in the Library Tower on the 10th Floor, East Room.

  • Q: What are the entry fees? A: The standard entry fee for each submission is $75 for professionals and $30 for students. For professionals, a campaign entry is $85. Students only pay $30 for campaign entries.

  • Q: What does “Local-Only Category” mean? A: AAF Montgomery awards certain categories that we feel are noteworthy in our district. These categories will be contested ONLY at the local level and winners will NOT be “rolled up” to the District competition. Entrants who want their winning work to advance to the District competition, should NOT enter the Local-Only categories, but rather the general advertising categories for the appropriate media.

  • Q: Are there any new categories this year? A: There are! This year we want to introduce categories specific to the printing process: Bindery and Finishing. Stay tuned for details on eligibility of projects for these categories!

  • Q: Do I have to get a second mortgage to attend the Awards? A: No, we’re planning on keeping things affordable.

  • Q: If I win will I get a shiny trophy? A: You bet! AAF Montgomery is working on getting a trophy of note that you will be proud to display (and not just on the corner of your desk as a glorified paper weight!).

  • Q: What happens after I win a Gold ADDY® Award? A: Gold winners will automatically be forwarded on to District competition where you will compete with other entries from other southeastern clubs in the 7th District. Top winners of that competition will forward on to the national competition.

  • Q: What if I only win a Silver Award, but know my submission kicks rear end? A: Silver winners will have the option to forward their entries on to the District competition. Those who choose to do so will have to pay the entry fee to do so. Is it worth it? You bet! Each level of competition has a new set of judges meaning a fresh set of eyes will be reviewing your work. Also keep in mind that different clubs and districts have varying strengths of work. As mentioned above, last year, 4 of the 10 local District 7 chapters were represented at the national award level. That means you have strong competition at the first level. What may warrant a Silver award here might be Gold worthy at the next level!

  • Q: What is the eligibility period for the awards? A: All work entered in the ADDY® competition must have first appeared in the media between January 1 and December 31, 2011.

  • Q: Where will the Montgomery 2012 ADDY® Awards Celebration be held? A: That’s a secret too, but we’ll give you the location in plenty of time for you to get there to receive your award(s). OK? In the meantime, practice your secret handshake.
